Kenneth Baer
Baer Communications was founded by Kenneth Baer -- a former White House speechwriter, author, and analyst -- who has extensive experience as a communications adviser to public figures. He was Deputy Director of Speechwriting for Gore-Lieberman 2000 and Senior Speechwriter for Vice President Al Gore. In these capacities, he wrote major speeches on foreign and domestic policy, talking points on a wide variety of issues, and op-eds for publication in major newspapers. He also edited the campaign's major policy books on the economy, family policy, and other issues. During the 2000 Democratic National Convention, Baer was the lead writer on the keynote address and worked backstage with prime-time speakers on speech texts and presentation. Before joining the Vice President, Baer wrote on technology and telecommunications issues for FCC Chairman William E. Kennard, and served as speechwriter to his home state Senator, Robert Torricelli of New Jersey.
Kenneth Baer brings to his writing this practical experience as well as a deep understanding of American politics, history, and culture. He is the author of Reinventing Democrats: The Politics of Liberalism from Reagan to Clinton, has published commentaries in publications such as Slate, the Los Angeles Times, and the Washington Monthly, and has been a political analyst on MSNBC, NPR, CNN, BBC, and CBC. Baer has a doctorate in Politics from Oxford University, where he was a Sir John and Lady Thouron Scholar, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to running Baer Communications, he has taught at Georgetown University and most recently at Johns Hopkins University where he was the Sacks Visiting Scholar.
